The Latin American Center for Economic and Social Policies of the Catholic University (Clapes UC), published a report on the criteria to initiate a “safe reopening”, warning of the increase in infections since August 16 in Chile.
“The number of daily infections is 1,821 (7-day average), which represents the highest level since August 16. Compared with September 22, the number of infections increases 21% and with September 15 it increases 2.7% ”, emphasizes the report.
The report maintains that all regions have registered an increase in infections and do not meet the criterion for reducing this rate by at least 5% and 10% in two weeks, to advance in the stages of disarray.
He also maintains that this week no region meets the criteria of having less than 40 infections per million inhabitants. The regions that are closest to meeting this requirement are the Metropolitan region and Coquimbo.
“Assuming different scenarios for the decrease in the number of cases in the coming weeks, Chile would reach a value of 20 daily cases per million inhabitants between November 6 and December 15, as long as the rate of reduction of infections accelerates daily, “he adds.
Regarding the decrease in infections registered last week, the study explains it by the National Holidays celebrations, arguing that fewer PCR tests were carried out than on other dates.
“The figures released this week confirm the unusualness of the previous week’s figures. In the last 7 days, 32,323 average tests were reported per day, that is, a figure 25% higher than that reported the previous week (25,806). In this way, all regions exceeded the threshold of 1,000 daily examinations per million inhabitants ”, he adds.
This week again the positivity of the reported exams was slightly reduced.
The 7-day average went from 6.1% to 5.9%. Only three regions meet the requirement of having a positivity of less than 5%: Antofagasta, Coquimbo and Metropolitana. 12 regions (two more than the previous week) have a positivity between 5% and 10% and only one has a positivity greater than 10%: Magellan.
Finally, regarding the use of ICU beds, four regions have an occupancy greater than 80% (two less than a week ago) and five regions recorded an occupancy of less than 60%.
