With votes from Chile Vamos and from DC José Miguel Ortiz, the Finance Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved the Government’s indication that readjusts the minimum wage to $ 326,500 until April of next year.

What happened contrasts with yesterday’s vote in the Labor Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, where the Government suffered a new setback with 7 abstentions from the opposition and 6 favorable votes from the ruling party.

It should be remembered that after the failure with its 0% readjustment project, the Government insisted with this new proposal where it was opened to a readjustment of six thousand pesos, as a ceiling, as clarified by the Minister of Finance Ignacio Briones.

Today, after the vote in the Finance Commission, the head of the fiscal wallet insisted that “the reality of the country is very different, and therefore the trend that the minimum wage has been showing towards the rise has to have a pause, not a willful pause, but a pause that takes charge with a sense of reality of what is happening ”.

The indication contemplates a new negotiation in April with the objective that “the new readjustment process is unmoored from the political cycle, and next year is essentially electoral. April from that point of view seems more prudent than March, ”the minister explained today.

Now, the project must be analyzed tomorrow in the Chamber Room, where it appears first in the table of the session convened from 10 am.

It will be a key vote, because the Government’s proposal does not convince the opposition, which has not only asked for an increase of more than $ 6,000, but also that the increase be reevaluated in January 2021. They have also put on the table the need to incorporate a subsidy to cover the cost of food inflation, along with special aid for SMEs so that they can cover those salaries.
