Draft Law on Migration and Foreigners: Senate rejects indication of “labor tourism” visa
Article 56 bis had been approved by the Finance Commission. The record was 25 votes against and 16 in favor.
The Senate Chamber rejected the indication created by the “work tourism” or “job opportunities” visa in the draft Law on Migration and Aliens.
The votes in favor were 16 and against 25 votes.

The undersecretary of the Interior, Juan Francisco Galli indicated that “in the Senate of the Republic we have managed to convince the vast majority of senators of the inappropriateness of the indication that had been approved in the finance committee
What it allowed was that a person who arrived at our borders without having previously requested the possibility of residing in our country, be given an entry visa to our country to look for job opportunities ”.
“That is already contemplated in the bill, but this requires -the foreigner- to present his / her background to the Chilean consulate previously and we do not run into the problem when that person is already at the airport or is at the border”, Galli expressed.
He highlighted that from the beginning of the bill, the government proposed three objectives: “To have a modern immigration regulation; have a regulation of an orderly, safe and regular immigration policy; have an adequate immigration institution ”.
