The Bío Bío region added 133 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. Low availability of beds it would be a factor that would be preventing the lifting of some quarantines in communes located north of the Bío Bío River.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Curanilahue was concerned about the possibility of having to face the plebiscite of October 25 under confinement.

The Bío Bío region has 1,760 active cases, this after 133 new coronavirus diagnoses were added in the last 24 hours and So far there are no infections associated with national holidays, according to the authorities.

The Minister of Health, Héctor Muñoz, said that the communes north of the Bío Bío River are in a better condition than those south of the tributary.

In this regard, he said that the critical situation of ICU and ICU beds in the region is what would be preventing the lifting of some quarantines. So far there are 28 ICU beds available and 26 ICU beds, in addition to 82 mechanical ventilators.

“All this measure is subject to our availability of beds, which today again drops 15%. It is a measure that has to go with several factors. The positivity has dropped (…), the R in some communes has decreased, it has been less than one – in Tomé (…) it increased in recent days – and the availability of beds is another factor to evaluate that we have been there (…) With a dynamic figure ”, he said.

The communes that are south of the Bío Bío later entered quarantine, so they are not in the same conditions as those in the north. Hence, there is concern about what is happening in Coronel, Lota and San Pedro, in addition to those found in the Province of Arauco, Curanilahue, Los Álamos and Lebu.

Just 15 days after these quarantines, that is, this Friday, the situation of these last three could be evaluated. However, the Mayor of Curanilahue, Luis Gegnagel, was concerned about the possibility of having to face the plebiscite on October 25 in confinement.

“I already asked the electoral manager to contact Servel to find out what are the guidelines for quarantined communes”, he assured.

The communes with the most active cases are Coronel with 321; Concepción follows with 242; and further back Curanilahue with 147. More than 100 active cases also have the communes of Talcahuano with 112, San Pedro with 104 and Chiguayante with 101.
