The statements of the Minister of Health Enrique paris about the Viña Festival are having quite an impact.

In the program At this time it is improvised Channel 13, the authority spoke of various issues related to the pandemic and hinted that an event like the Festival is far from being able to take place in the current context.

“I believe that the Viña Festival cannot be done. In February, even if we have a vaccine, we will not have the entire population vaccinated and we may have a giant outbreak, we will not be able to control people, “he said briefly.

This prompted TVN to schedule an extraordinary board meeting for this Wednesday, in order to review the situation.

“The position that Minister Enrique Paris has expressed last night seems very relevant to us, since he puts the health of Chileans as the first priority” assured Francisco Guijón, executive director of the state channel, according to Emol.

“As a public channel we want to ensure the welfare and safety of people,” he added.

Let us remember that in August the organizing channels of the contest, TVN and Channel 13, had already requested the Municipality to cancel the event that would take place in February 2021, however, the municipality rejected the request.

According to Guijón, other massive events that generate crowds and that involve the transfer of artists, such as Lollapalooza, have already been canceled. “(That) confirms that the decision to suspend the Viña Festival is the most sensible thing to do,” he added.

For her part, Mayor Virginia Reginato announced that she will convene an expanded commission to analyze the situation and define alternatives.

“I have made the decision to convene an expanded commission made up of the Festival Commission and the Municipal Council, to define what alternatives allow us to take care of the heritage value of the Festival, along with reactivating and promoting economic activity, tourism, social activity and culture of Viña del Mar ”, he sentenced.
