The company Iansa confirmed this Tuesday the “Definitive term” of sugar production at its plant located in the city of The Angels.
Through an essential fact signed by Gonzalo Sanhueza Dueñas, president of the company, they indicated to the Commission for the Financial Market (CMF) that the decision was adopted after an extraordinary session of the board of directors.
“It was agreed that the sugar plant located in Los Angeles will not receive beets during the 2020-2021 sugar campaign ″, the letter specified.
Next, it was pointed out that the “definitive termination of sugar production in the referred plant” was also agreed.
The latter, detailed Iansa, will materialize from this September 29.
Since 2016, the company Iansa has been dealing with a crisis that is rooted in food changes worldwide, despite the fact that they have created products from light lines. Added to this is the low prices of sugar internationally.
In 2018 they closed their plant in Linares, affecting -directly and indirectly-, the employment of some 4 thousand people.
In Los Angeles they perform around 121 workers. Some “will be relocated within the seven production centers” that the company has in Chile.
For others, the company said, “a comprehensive benefits package has been developed.”
“The Chillán plant will gather all the sugar production, after more than US $ 30 million of investment,” specified Iansa.
The mayor of Los Angeles, Esteban KrauseHe said through Twitter that the company informed him that the production carried out in the city will be channeled to the Ñuble plant.
“Without a doubt, a difficult time for the workers and farmers of this industry, an industrial icon in our history as a city,” wrote the authority on its social network.
I have received the sad news of the closure of the Iansa sugar plant in Los Angeles, everything will be channeled into the Ñuble Plant. Without a doubt, a difficult time for the workers and farmers of this industry, an industrial icon in our history as a city.
