An unusual situation was experienced during the night of this Saturday and early Sunday morning, after residents of a condominium in the Peñalolén commune carried out massive roasts inside the enclosure, preventing the inspection of Carabineros, who had to withdraw amid insults. The uniformed police will file a formal complaint against the residents.
Its about El Sauzal de Peñalolén condominium, a place from which Carabineros received numerous complaints from neighbors due to crowds of people, for holding parties and barbecues, accompanied by loud music.
According to the lieutenant Jose Castro Rivas, patrol officer of the eastern prefecture, before this uniformed personnel came to the place, checking that they were carrying out at least 7 barbecues on the first floor patios of the different blocks of the residential complex, each with between 10 to 15 people, for a total of close to one hundred individuals.
However, the police were prevented from acting because the private compound had a perimeter closure. Furthermore, the Carabineros indicated that he was received with insults by the residents, who were mostly in a state of drunkenness.
Given this, Carabineros decided to warn the neighbors over the loudspeaker to cease their activities because they were in violation of article 318 of the penal code, which prohibits activities that put public health at risk.
Since the neighbors ignored it, the uniformed personnel withdrew, stating that they will file a formal complaint with the Peñalolén Prosecutor’s Office against those responsible for the parties.
Asked whether the police are not authorized to enter the compound in the presence of a flagrant crime, Lieutenant Castro indicated that due to the perimeter closure they could not access, and that both because there were no alterations to public order and because of the proximity of the buildings In residential areas, tear gas or a water-throwing car could not be used.
