In a disputed match, Cristian Garin failed to overcome Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (6th ATP), who defeated the first national racket by 7-5, 3-6 and 6-4 in two hours and 15 minutes of the game, in order to ensure their pass to the final of the ATP 500 in Hamburg.
In the first set, both tennis players showed a great level, but the balance tipped early in favor of the Greek, who went ahead in three games taking advantage of the unforced errors that Garin was making. The Chilean overcame this and leveled at 5 games, but Tsitsipas showed off his strong serve and right hand to stay 7-5 in the first set.
Garin changed the story and his style in the second sleeve. The Chilean was firmer in his blows and with a safer game he managed to complicate the Greek. ‘Gago’ broke Tsitsipas twice, who had no response to the parallel setbacks of the first national racket, who won 6-3 with a category.
The story would be complex for Garin in the third set, as he complained of a discomfort in his right leg, which caused him to decrease in the intensity of the game. This was taken advantage of by Tsitsipas, who made the Chilean run that he could do nothing to respond to the Greek’s blows. In the end the world number 6 won the set and the match 6-4.
With this result, the first national racket failed to qualify for the final of the ATP 500 in Hamburg and will prepare for its next challenge at Roland Garros, when it will face the German Philipp Kohlschreiber for the first round of the Grand Slam.
