The Bío Bío Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported this Saturday that it will continue, together with the PDI, with the investigative line that allowed the arrest and prosecution of three defendants for the theft committed last July and that triggered the fire in Pedro Etchepare Borda de Lanalhue boarding school, in the Bío Bío region.

This, after the Concepción Court of Appeals confirmed the resolution of the Cañete Guarantee Court, which rejected the preventive detention against three Mapuche community members accused of the arson attack in the educational campus, leaving two of them free and one under house arrest.

Decision that according to the ministers of the court of appeal was based on the weak evidence, accepting the arguments of the defender Pedro Aguilera, who stressed that the investigative work does not so far accredits the responsibility of its represented.

Said resolution is contrary to what was proposed by the prosecuting body, therefore, “The Prosecutor’s Office will advance by developing the proceedings within the three-month period granted by the court, to complete the investigation.”

Likewise, they indicated that they are “providing protection and guidance to victims of serious crimes related to rural violence.”
