In the Puerto Montt hospital the mountaineers rescued from an operational complex, after sunrise literally “hanging” in a part of the Puntiagudo Volcano in the Los Lagos region.
The mountaineers were hanging from their ropes more than 2,000 meters high on the north face of the volcano, having to be rescued by an Air Force helicopter.
In this regard, the regional director of the National Emergency Office (Onemi), stated that “they would have been anchored, bolted to the sector of the north face, they spent the night there. Colloquially these people slept hanging since they were left on a wall of the volcano ”.
The rescue coordination was carried out after police officers from the Rupanco Retention Center in Puerto Octay, osorno province, contacted the 4 members of the group.
In a complex maneuver, the FACh helicopter managed to rescue José Naipil, who has a fracture in your tibia and fibula, added to a ligament cut, for which he was admitted to the ward at the Puerto Montt hospital.
Meanwhile, his partner identified as Marcelo Duhart, was diagnosed with a grade 3 sprain in the same room.
This is the second emergency of this type that is generated in the same volcano, after a few weeks ago Spanish mountaineers ascended the massif. On that occasion, one of them also had to be rescued by air.
From the Onemi in the region they affirmed that the Seremi de Salud and Carabineros must apply a procedure regarding access to that area during the pandemic, considering that access to national parks and therefore mountain activities are prohibited.
