Yann Yvin was interviewed by Angélica Castro in the El Breakfast space broadcast by Instagram Live.
The French chef began the conversation by recounting the assault he suffered last July, after going to the dentist, when a group of criminals approached him in Vitacura, attacked him with a fire extinguisher and stole his car. Days later, Yvin left for France.
The chef – part of the new program Oye al Chef de CHV – also declassified a previous occasion in which they also tried to assault him in Chile. This was his story, which starts with the last attack:
“It was in Vitacura, I went to the dentist, in the middle of the pandemic, with my mask. And coming down from the dentist, after three hours of going in to eat, I put a leg inside the car, I put my poto on the seat and, trying to grab the door to close the car, there came four guys on top. There I felt ‘I’m going to have a bad time’.
“I didn’t deny anything, I didn’t try to resist. ‘Do you want the car? No problem. I’m not going to object. They’re going to take the car and everything. ‘ But since I was very nervous, obviously, it was a robbery, there were four of them and they told me ‘get out of there, you jerk, motherfucker! Get out of there! We’re going to kill you! ‘ I said ‘calm down’. I took my time. I said ‘I’m going to pick up the key to my house, my cell phone’. ‘No, leave everything there!’ And since I was a little slow, they began to force me out.
“They took a small fire extinguisher from the car, those little ones, and, bread! The nose crashed in blood, it was a fountain of blood everywhere. And of course, the extinguisher was chubby, so your whole forehead hurts, your teeth and your nose broke of course.
“There I stayed on the berm. But the worst thing is that those Aweonaos did not know how to start the car, because it is a modern car and you had to put the button. And they told me ‘now fuck your mother, come back! How does this weá work ?! ‘. So I had to explain to them how to go with the car.
“They left. Then came Paz Ciudadana, but about 20 seconds later, luckily. He saw me with my nose like this, blood everywhere, sitting on the berm. ‘All good?’. ‘Not. They just assaulted me, the car over there, in the background. Do you see the light behind? It’s my car. They just stole it from me. ‘ ‘Yeah, ok. I’m going after them. ‘ He never reached it, of course, but in the meantime he managed to call the Carabineros and they arrived.
“Then they took me to the clinic. After POI, as it is assault, comes the PDI. If it’s robbery, Carabineros comes. They did an impeccable job. Very well received. A lawyer from the municipality of Vitacura came to see if he needs mental health support. They were very professional and friendly.
“It was the second time it had happened to me in Chile. The first time it was even worse, because it was with a gun and the La Casa de Papel mask. It was a year ago, with four roosters with pistols. One at the front, two at the sides and one at the back. And they point at you saying ‘get out of there, we’re going to kill you’. I was shocked, white. I said ‘chuta, I’m going to die there, on a Sunday, a Sunday at 9 at night, on the highway, away from everything, like any jerk, like a lazy dog, they are going to kill me for a fucking car.’
“From the shock I couldn’t find the button to open the door. They were trying to open the door, knocking everywhere and got tired. It lasted a minute, but time passed, they left and nothing happened to me.
“Today I must admit that after the last time, what happened in July, I drive very little at first. I go less around the city. When I have to record the show (of CHV), they come to find me and that’s it. But yes, you look everywhere.
“Each one handles it in his own way. Of course, when it happened to me in July, the next day I think we had planned the same with you, and I fished my things and left high. ‘ I took the first flight to France the next morning, because I wanted to disconnect. My cell phone had been stolen, I couldn’t answer either, and I went to France flat. I had planned to go on vacation, but I anticipated it. I never said I was going to leave Chile, that was fake news, period.
“I’m not a man to go to the psychologist, but mental health is something that we always put a little aside. I did a talk with psychologists on the other hand, precisely the pandemic, and I realized that we did have to take care of our mental health, which is a disease without taboo. We don’t have to have taboo for that. If your arm hurts, your brain can also hurt, but the symptoms are not obvious. So, it is difficult.
“I try to minimize things for my family, my mother, so as not to scare them. I said ‘nothing happened already happened’. But really, inside, I can’t measure it, because it was quite recently. I know that speaking it helps and can help others. Many times talking about what you feel helps ”.
