The East Prosecutor’s Office requested a hearing to formalize the colonel of the Carabineros Eduardo Witt, due to an event that occurred on October 20 of last year.
In the midst of a looting in Peñalolén, a person was injured in the knee as a result of a shot fired with a riot shotgun.
According to the highly complex prosecutor, Felipe Sepúlveda, the person who fired the weapon was Colonel Witt. The persecutor added that, for this reason, he will be formalized for the crime of serious injuries.
The hearing will be held on December 7 at the 13th Guarantee Court of Santiago.
“Unacceptable, exceptional and very serious”
Last February, Colonel Witt spoke out on behalf of the Carabineros for a beating by officials against a young man in High Bridge.
On that occasion, Witt pointed out that what happened was “unacceptable, exceptional and extremely serious.”
“Carabineros will not tolerate that any official stay away from protocols and the corresponding legal framework. It is exceptional because the police do not do this, we are not trained or educated for these situations, “he said at the time.
