The Third Court of Oral Criminal Trial of Santiago issued this Tuesday the penalty for the 20-year-old man convicted of the frustrated crime of arson at the Pedro de Valdivia University, in the middle of the social outbreak.
Alejandro Carvajal was sentenced to 3 years and one day in prison, which he must serve under the intensive probation regime, for his quality of author of the frustrated crime of arson, perpetrated in November 2019 in Providencia.
Sentence was adopted in a split judgment, since one of the judges voted against granting him a substitute sentence.
According to the investigation of the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Prosecutor’s Office, On November 8 of last year the man threw a combustible accelerating liquid at curtains that were on fire, contributing to increase and expand the fire that had already started inside the heritage building located in Providencia.
On September 1, the oral trial began against the young man, who was in preventive detention since he was formalized for the crime of arson.
The East Prosecutor’s Office requested 5 years and one day of effective imprisonment, while the defense sought for him to have a substitute sentence.
