Six Mapuche communities in the Malleco province announced the occupation of land individuals and forestry companies.

The community members asked the government to speed up the land restitution process in La Araucanía.

These are the Antonio Aniñir, We Juan Maika, Toledo Cheguan Antipi 1 and Meli Folil Wechekeche communities of the Traiguén commune and the Juan Canuleo Pinoleo, Victorio Millán de Victoria communities. The representatives warned that in the coming days what they call a territorial recovery process.

According to Matías Cuevas Porma, werkén of the Victorio Millán community, he argued that legally the Government must manage the delivery of land based on ILO Convention 169.


On the other hand, Galvarino Reiman, president of the We Juan Maika community, explained that in some properties they will grow crops and animals will enter others. Regarding forestry companies, he added that they will not be able to continue with their tasks.

Through a letter addressed to the President of the Republic and the Mayor Víctor Manoli, the representatives made the official announcement of these actions outside the Regional Government building, where about 50 people arrived to have the document delivered.
