The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) reacted to the controversial sale of Isla Guafo, the 50 thousand hectares located near Chiloé and which are offered in the jet-set real estate market for 20 million dollars.

In conversation with CNN Chile, Rodrigo Catalán, conservation director of WWF Chile, pointed out that as an organization the news seems to them that it is something that it should not be.

“It seems to us as a conservation organization but also and above all to the Mapuche communities of southern Chiloé and Quellón, who point out that this sale should not occur. A site of that heritage value should belong to all Chileans and the State” , said.

Catalan highlighted the natural wealth of the place that caught the attention of the international press and affirmed that “it is like something out of a novel.”

“It has quite particular characteristics and different from other areas of Patagonia, where private territories have been recovered as public assets. It is time to think about what can be found as a solution and we must put the communities in this conversation”, said the director of conservation of WWF Chile to the television medium.
