Carabineros delivered this Sunday afternoon a first balance on the departure of vehicles from the Capital during the weekend of National Holidays, which have registered a decrease compared to other years.
Marked by the covid-19 pandemic, departures from the capital registered a decrease of 89% compared to 2016, year in which the celebration of National Holidays also lasted three days.
The General of the Carabineros, Manuel Valdés, who explained that the balance includes between Thursday at 00:00 hours, until this Sunday at 16:00, on the cars registered in the sanitary cordons.
“We have a balance from Thursday at 00:00 until today at 16:00. We had a quantity of 51,663 vehicles left the Metropolitan region ”, explained.
It should be noted that the Minister of Public Works, Alfedo Moreno, reported on Friday that since September 14, more than 240,000 vehicles had left the Capital.
In addition, compared to the last long weekend, San Pedro and San Pablo in mid-July, there is also a decrease of 8.1% of vehicles that have left from the Metropolitan region.
Regarding traffic accidents, compared to 2016 there has been a decrease of 55% with 425 accidents.
“Lamentable figure of 18 deceased people, there is still a significant decrease,” said Valdés. The policeman maintained that the main consequences are “inattentive driving, driving with the presence of alcohol and not prudent speed.”
On the sanitary cords, 3,569 vehicles were returned to the capital due to not having authorization to leave the Metropolitan region. Furthermore, 131 people have been arrested for different reasons.
Meanwhile, more than 11 thousand cars throughout the country were returned to their first homes for not complying with the permits in the sanitary cordons.
