In the middle of carrying out the solidarity television campaign “Vamos Chilenos”, it has been reiterated many times that it helps the elderly, but not everyone is clear about what that help will consist of.

The collection will be channeled by the Conecta Mayor foundation of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, whose official website indicates that they seek to “provide technology to facilitate the encounter and visibility of the most vulnerable older people in our country.”

“We need to collect resources so that we can benefit more than 50 thousand older people from the most needy sectors of all Chile,” they add.

But what help will it deliver concretely? Vulnerable older people benefited from the campaign will receive a basic supplies and food kit, which will be supervised by the Geriatric and Gerontological Society of Chile, and by the Nutrition area of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Also, They will be given a device named CM-VIRTUAL (Conecta Mayor Virtual), which is a cell phone “with a connection plan and a friendly interface specially designed for older people.”

The device has applications to communicate and receive assistance through: Conecta Mayor’s Virtual Help and Communication Center, the corresponding Health Center (CESFAM), Salud Responde, Carabineros and Relatives or close people.

“Additionally, CM-VIRTUAL has connection, information and entertainment applications, such as WhatsApp, Camera, Chrome, and Calculator, among others, which may vary according to the needs of each person,” they indicated.

Let’s go Chileans

The foundation explains that the idea is to integrate those over 80 years of age from the most vulnerable 40% of Chile, “using technology to connect and accompany them”

To distribute these benefits, Conecta Mayor partnered with the municipalities to be able to reach the people who need it. “Each municipality must register and follow the instructions in order to benefit the elderly in their commune,” they comment.

The aid would begin to be delivered from October 15.
