The Magallanes Health Minister (s), Eduardo Castillo, confirmed the death of a 65-year-old man positive for coronavirus who had been emergency evacuated on August 31 at the Metropolitan Hospital in Santiago.
“We know how difficult this time is for your family and friends. We call on the entire community to commit to this pandemic in which we can all help with self-care actions, ”said the health authority.
With this death, Magellan registers 62 dead because of the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. In recent weeks, 20 people have died.
New cases
Meanwhile, 108 new cases were reported as of yesterday, Friday, reaching 6,108 infected with a notification rate of 3,424 per 100,000 inhabitants.
“The high number of new cases that we have registered in the last week at the regional level, as a community we have to make sacrifices on such a traditional date for everyone, in order to face this new wave of coronavirus and that the numbers of new cases begin to decrease” Castillo added.
In the Magallanes hospital network there are 77 hospitalized patients positive for the virus, of them, seven are in the Puerto Natales Hospital and the rest in Punta Arenas. Sixty-five are in isolation, 11 in the Critical Patients Unit and 5 are on mechanical ventilation. Of the people who are in Natales, 1 is in the Intermediate Treatment Unit.
58.3% of the total hospitalized in the region are carriers of coronavirus. The occupancy of ICU beds in the region is 62 percent (see page 3). Fan occupancy is 22%, with 28 fans available and 8 occupied. The lethality is in a range of 1.01%.
To date, there are 1,302 active cases in the region.
