Donald Trump’s proposal to ban the use of the TikTok and WeChat apps will take effect this Sunday “to safeguard the national security of the United States,” the Commerce Department reported on Friday.
According to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, the order will be implemented to “combat the malicious collection of ‘personal data’ of US citizens by China.”

He said that people who use it to exchange messages will not be subject to sanctions.
Some security experts have expressed concerns that ByteDance Ltd., the Chinese company that owns TikTok, could maintain access to the information of the 100 million users of the app in the United States, creating a security risk.
