President Sebastián Piñera held a meeting of at least two hours in the afternoon with the comptroller Jorge Bermúdez, in a week marked by the announcement of the summary to be carried out by the Comptroller’s Office to seven generals of the High Command of the Carabineros.

Bermúdez arrived yesterday at La Moneda where he met with Piñera between 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. where they spoke about the work of the Comptroller’s Office in the cases of Carabineros and the inquiries to health authorities during the pandemic.

According to the cited sources, Piñera would not have questioned the investigations, while Bermúdez explained that it was the duty of the agency to investigate the complaints (in the case of Carabineros, more than 450).

The administrative investigation of the Comptroller’s Office on Carabineros has caused a stir within the police institution, even the high command has questioned whether they can be investigated.

Through a statement, the Comptroller’s Office ruled out that the investigation against the Carabineros was illegal, as claimed by the defense of two of the seven High Command generals investigated by the Comptroller’s Office.

“The authority of the Comptroller General to pursue administrative responsibilities in Carabineros de Chile is based on article 98 of the Political Constitution of the Republic, which entrusts it with the control of the legality of administrative acts,” they say in a statement.
