The Government reiterated that the next September 18 and 19 correspond to two of the five mandatory and essential holidays that exist every year.
Commerce, for example, must meet certain standards: it must be closed from 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17 to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday September 20, 2020.
The Labor Directorate (DT) has also clarified that those hours could vary “only in the case of commercial workers who work rotating shifts.”
Trade workers who work in activities such as restaurants, fuel dispensers and emergency pharmacies, among others, are exempt from the mandatory and non-waivable holiday.
“Respect for this unavoidable holiday is essential. It has been a particularly complex year, especially for workers, so respect for their rights is essential, ”said the Undersecretary of Labor, Fernando Arab, quoted on the DT website.

DT reported that will enable a banner on its site from September 17 in the afternoon (6:00 p.m.), so that those commercial workers who are being forced to work, can carry out their complaint.
The employer that does not comply with granting the mandatory and inalienable holiday is exposed to fines ranging from 5 to 20 UTM for each worker affected by the offense.
It is important to note that those commercial premises that are run by their own owners and / or direct relatives can work.
During the holidays of September 18 and 19, 2019, 59 companies were fined for not respecting, for a total of 60 million pesos. Meanwhile, 116 workers were suspended from shifts they were not supposed to be on.
