With a letter sent to El Mercurio, the children of Ismael Huerta Díaz, Minister of Foreign Relations in the first days of the dictatorship, expressed their annoyance at the personification of their father in the series “Invisible Heroes”, recently broadcast by Chilevisión.
“The characterization, in addition to being crude and imprecise, shows him as a person of little intelligence and culture, and goes so far as to accuse him of direct complicity in arbitrary abuse of third parties. All of this is false and insulting,” Huerta’s relatives said about the character played by the actor Cristián Carvajal and stressed that “his duties as chancellor were not related to what was narrated in the series.”
From the family of the former Chilean Chancellor between September 12, 1973 and June 11, 1974, they claimed that “the situation is even more serious if we consider that, when we learned about this project, two years ago, we contacted the producers to put at your disposal all the primary sources and relevant material so that the series would adjust to reality. Our father published his memoirs while he was alive (“I would be a sailor again”), where you will find a precise and trustworthy account of his experiences , including his period as Minister of Foreign Relations. We also asked the producers to have access to the script, as they would use the name of Ismael Huerta. They responded that they would request authorization, but we never received a response from them, despite our insistence. “
In the letter signed by Jorge, Bernardita and Mina Huerta, it was established that “all those who knew our father, both socially and professionally, have always shown signs of administration and respect for his human and professional qualities. It is regrettable that they resort to the lie to tarnish the memory of a person who is no longer there to defend himself and who does not deserve this attack. We have not thought about resorting to justice, because we know how these cases are filed in today’s Chile. : publicly express our outrage at this malicious act. “
Who was Ismael Huerta?

But it was during the dictatorship that Huerta developed most of his political career. In addition, between July 14, September 1977 and on May 17, 1984 he was rector of the Federico Santa María Technical University.
