A Carabinero in civilian clothes managed to thwart the theft of his car when strangers made him a lock up in La Granja, in the Metropolitan region.

Minutes before, that same group he had stolen the vehicle from a mother who was traveling with her son in Florida.

The event began in the sector of Avenida México with Trinidad in the commune of La Florida, when a woman and her 9-year-old son were approached by three hooded people who got out of a vehicle with firearms and threatened them, and later stole their car.

Later, the same assailants, occupying said vehicle, tried to lock up another mobile on Punta Arenas street with Tomé, in the La Granja commune.

However, the occupant turned out to be a carabineros corporal who used his service weapon, firing at least two shots, to repel the robbery, detailed the officer of the round of the Cordillera prefecture, Captain César Bustamante.


According to the Carabineros, none of the victims was injured by the assault, nor were the assailants.

The vehicle that had been stolen in Florida was recovered and returned to the mother and her son.

The records of the security cameras will play a fundamental role in finding those responsible. In one of them, vehicles are observed passing by and the cries of the first victims are heard.
