A total of 263,377 applicants registered to take the Transition Test 2021, exam scheduled to be taken on January 4 and 5 of next year and which will replace the University Selection Test (PSU), the standardized test that between 2003 and 2020 was part of the admission process for admission to the universities of the Council of Rectors (Cruch) and other private schools.
This, after a registration process that began on July 20 and which, after the original term was extended, ended on Friday, September 11. And all in the midst of the social and health complications generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
the sUndersecretary of Higher Education, Juan Eduardo Vargas, valued that “in such a complex and anomalous year (…) more than 262 thousand young people have registered to take the new Transition Test ”. From them, 73% are young fourth year graduates and the remaining 27% applicants from previous generations.

The Ministry of Education reported that 55% of those registered are women and 45% men; 97% are Chilean and 3% foreign; and 4,813 people signed up reporting a disability or asked for some type of adjustment to take the test.
The authority highlighted that “This year we observed a drop of 11% in registrations, which is mainly explained by a drop in registrations from previous promotions, evening establishments and professional technicians, who generally opt for Higher Technical Professional Education, which does not require the entrance test ”.
Undersecretary Vargas added that “After this process, from the Ministry of Education we will continue advancing now with the Security Table that we convened together with the ministries of the Interior, Health and DEMRE of the University of Chile to coordinate that the application of the test complies with all sanitary safeguard measures necessary for students and examining teams ”.
