The Children’s Ombudsman’s Office sued for the crime of attempted homicide against those responsible for the shooting of a 13-year-old Mapuche child, an event that occurred in the Curaco sector of the Collipulli commune, La Araucanía Region.

The minor, belonging to the community Wente Wincul Mapu -which claims ancestral rights in the Nahuel Estate and that was evicted in recent days by police forces-, “He underwent surgery and is recovering in the Temuco hospital”, reported from the agency.

According to the first antecedents, he was hit by a bullet from a moving vehicle that was traveling along Route R-49.

As reported by the team of professionals from the South Macrozone of the agency, the boy’s family stated that “there were seven other children playing in the community at the time unknown men fired at them from a car that was driving along the adjoining road.”

The Ombudsman for Children, Patricia muñoz, described the situation as “maximum seriousness”, maintaining that together with the case of the shooting that wounded a girl in Collipulli on August 21 – a fact for which the Ombudsman also complained – it reveals “the absolute inability of the State to ensure, effectively, public safety in the area, which has resulted in children and adolescents being affected in their physical and mental integrity, with evident risk to their lives “.

“Our complaint will not have an effective result if those responsible for the criminal investigation, directed by the Public Ministry, but specifically entrusted to the police, do not find and determine the identity of those who have committed this serious and unacceptable act “, he expressed.

The judicial action was presented before the Court of Guarantee of Collipulli.

A POSTON

The surgical intervention to which the minor was subjected at the Regional Hospital of Temuco was successful.

From the Public Ministry they specified that in the operation it was possible to extract a pellet lodged in the abdomen that would have been shot with a compressed air weapon.
