Health Minister Enrique Paris spearheaded a new televised report of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Minsal chief began by congratulating some regions for a drop in the positivity rate but expressed “particular concern” about the situation in Los Ríos, Aysén, Araucanía, Maule and Magallanes “which had a very important increase and continues to increase” but, as he said, all are “in decline.”

On the other hand, Paris congratulated the regions of Biobío, Coquimbo, Antofagasta, Metropolitan Region, Arica, Valparaíso and Los Lagos, “because they have managed to reduce their cases weekly.”

“At the national level, we also show a small decrease,” he added.

“The positivity rate of PCR tests nationwide has dropped from 17% to 6% in the last 90 days (…) even in MRI, the positivity rate remains at 4%. Thanks to the health team, we have increased the daily tests from 16,000 to more than 31,000, and this is associated with the following phenomenon: the more tests, we have had fewer positive cases, “said the head of Minsal.

Regarding the figures, in the last 24 hours, Minsal reported 54 new deaths, according to information from the Department of Health Information and Statistics (DEIS).

The total number of deaths is 11,949 since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the last day, 2,082 new infections were recorded, of which 592 are asymptomatic.

The total number of cases in the country reaches 434,748 people. Meanwhile, there are 16,473 active cases, that is, people capable of infecting others, and 406,626 “have recovered.”

There are currently 906 patients in the ICU, of which 676 are on ventilator support. In addition, there are 463 mechanical fans available.

Minsal reported 36,298 PCR tests performed, with a positivity that reached 5.74%. In total, 2,828,129 of these tests have been carried out in Chile.

Regarding health residences, there are 151 enclosures available to those who need isolation, with 10,235 places available, of which 5,059 have been used.
