Epidemiological Report: Punta Arenas registers a decrease in active cases of Covid-19, but continues to lead at the national level

A slight improvement in Punta Arenas revealed the 50th Epidemiological Report of the Ministry of Health. The report gives an account of the evolution of the coronavirus commune by commune and was published this Saturday.

In its latest version – of 79 pages – the document revealed that active infections in the capital of the Magallanes Region decreased from 1,354 -in the report of September 8- to 1,164. However, the commune continues to lead at the national level in this indicator.

Puente Alto -in the Metropolitan Region- ranks second on the list, but with less than half of active cases: 581. It is followed by Concepción (518) and Valparaíso (492).

In relation to the incidence rate of active cases per 100 thousand inhabitants -considering only communes with more than ten thousand residents-, Punta Arenas remains in first place (819.8).

Municipalities like Maullín (389.4) and Puerto Octay (326.4), in Los Lagos they also have high rates. Like Pichidagua (380.9); Chañaral (364.6); Curanilahue (362.9) and Natales (353.2).

On the other hand, of the 32 communes that make up the province of Santiago, only two presented an asset rate greater than 100: Lo Prado and Renca.

At the regional level, meanwhile, the Metropolitana has the highest number of positive assets, with 5,526. She is followed by Biobío (2,817); Valparaíso (2,158) and Magallanes (1,283).
