47 years after the coup: These are the main commemorative activities for September 11

This Friday marks the 47th anniversary of the coup on September 11, 1973. And different groups linked to political parties, disappeared detainees and human rights defenders have activities to commemorate this day.

At 10.00 In the morning, the Communist Party, led by its president Guillermo Teillier, parliamentarians, political and social leaders will pay tribute at the access to La Moneda on Calle Morandé 80 to the fallen, and they will put a wreath at the monument to Salvador Allende.

Half an hour later, from the Plaza Los Héroes a march towards the memorial of the Disappeared and Executed Political Detainee in the General Cemetery. Different social and human rights organizations will participate, such as the coordinator 8M and the Association of Relatives of Executed Politicians (AFEP).

At 10.45, the governing boards of the PS and the PPD, together with the president of the Salvador Allende Foundation and the granddaughter of the former President, Marcia Tambutti, will honor the victims of the dictatorship. In the opportunity, they will deposit floral offerings in the access to La Moneda de Morandé 80, and they will go to the monument located in the Plaza de la Constitución.

Also at the door of La Moneda that faces Morandé 80, the Group of Relatives of the Detained and Disappeared will perform the traditional tribute to Salvador Allende and all the victims of human rights violations

At 12.30 hours, the former presidential candidate of the Broad Front, Beatriz Sanchez, together with the president of the board of directors of the memory center of the former Santa Lucía Clinic, Lautaro Videla, representatives of Human Rights organizations and the Broad Front itself, will participate in a commemorative event.

Later, at 17.00 hours, under the slogan “Let’s illuminate Chile with truth and justice”, the 8M Feminist Coordinator summons a demonstration in Plaza Baquedano. And to the 18.00, the Museum of Memory and Human Rights will launch the “Letter of Memory”, a virtual experience that “will unite generations through letters written by grandchildren and granddaughters, their grandparents, victims of the dictatorship,” which will be read by actors and actresses called by Teatro La Memoria.

Meanwhile, at 11.00 hours, different organizations and movements adherents to the military regime carry out a commemorative act in the front of the Military School.

Similarly, and according to the Interior Minister, Víctor Pérez, during the day the President Sebastian Piñera will offer a press point where “you will express your opinion” on the new commemoration of this date.

It should be noted that all these activities must consider health measures due to the coronavirus pandemic. That is, they must respect physical distancing, use masks, among others.
