On Thursday afternoon, with 73 votes in favor and 52 against, the Chamber of Deputies approved the origin of the constitutional accusation against the judge Silvana Donoso, whereupon the magistrate was suspended from her duties.

All in the middle of the controversy that the murder of the young Ámbar Cornejo by Hugo Bustamante, who was serving a sentence for other deaths but received conditional release after a decision of a commission presided over by Donoso.

The decision of the deputies did not fall entirely well in the Judicial Power and it was the judge Gloria Ana Chevesich, spokeswoman for the highest court, who came out to comment on the situation facing Donoso.

“It is very unfortunate that the Chamber, in a divided vote, has declared that the constitutional accusation deducted against the minister of the Court of Appeals of Valparaíso, Mrs. Silvana Donoso Campos, has been accepted, ”Chevesich started.

After that, he affirmed that the Court respects the powers of parliamentarians, but in any case reviewed determination adopted by the deputies.

That because in his opinion in this specific case “The established cause is not configured in the Fundamental Charter, this is the notable abandonment of duties ”.

With this, the advance of the prosecution in Congress constitutes “A serious attack against judicial independence, which is a fundamental pillar of the judiciary ”, he launched.

Along these lines, Chevesich sent a message to the Senate and said he hoped that its members share his position and dismiss the accusatory libel against Donoso.

Donoso’s lawyers did not share the decision either. Jaime Winter, for example, stated that “a mistake” was made that “endangers the independence of our judicial system.”
