The Android 11 update does not represent a drastic change in cell phones, but it does bring some interesting news and a refinement in different areas.

Android 11, the successor to Android 10, was released on September 8, offering improved communication, new ways to control smart home devices, and more control of your privacy, among other new features.

As usual, Google was the first to update Android on its Pixel phones, but other brands such as Oppo and Xiaomi followed suit.

Here we collect the cell phones that have already been updated and those that will be updated to Android 11.

The Android 11 update release process

Android 11 had multiple beta versions before it was released as an official update on September 8, starting with the Pixel, OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi and Realme phones.

Although these are the first brands to enable the Android 11 update for their devices, it is expected that over time more companies will confirm the cell phones that will be updated and surely some phones will update to Android 11 in less time than expected.

The release varies a lot depending on the device, but it seems like the modularity that Android introduced Airing (Android 8.0) to make updates simpler and not so dependent on updating drivers from cell phone chip and component makers has helped some manufacturers get the update released faster than usual.

Why do Android updates take so long and don’t reach all cell phones at the same time?

Android is the most popular mobile operating system in the world, and that complicates things a bit.

Just think of the different Android cell phones around the world (there are millions). Not all have the same screen size, the same processor or the same components, and many times there are modifications to optimize them for different markets or regions.

This means that each manufacturer has to optimize and make the appropriate modifications so that the operating system works properly in each of the cell phone models.

In addition, it is necessary that the manufacturers of different components update the drivers of these to work properly with Android.

Also, working and enabling an update also means time and money, so each manufacturer evaluates this to see if it is really worth releasing the update of the new flavor of Android.
