Until the offices of the Ministry of Health, members of the Anti-Corruption Brigade of the PDI arrived this day to seize information in the framework of the investigations into the complaint filed by the mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue, for the deaths from COVID- 19 in the commune.
The proceedings were ordered by the prosecutor Marcelo Carrasco, of the Central North High Complexity Prosecutor’s Office, one day after the request to remove him from the investigation made by the lawyers representing President Sebastián Piñera, former Minister of Health Jaime Mañalich and the undersecretaries Paula Daza and Arturo Zúñiga, from Public Health and Healthcare Networks, respectively.
Carrasco was appointed three months ago by the Public Ministry to process this case, which was opened after the complaint filed by the Recollect mayor for the death of 62 residents of the commune during the health crisis was declared admissible. The crimes that the communal authority imputes are quasi-crimes of homicide, denial of assistance and abandonment of destination.

The lawyer Ramón Sepúlveda, who represents Jadue, assured Emol that “we believe that what they are doing trying to change the prosecutor is to accommodate justice to what they seek. And that, which is typical of other cases where even two high-level prosecutors, such as Carlos Gajardo and Pablo Norambuena, end up resigning, now they want to change the prosecutor of this case. In his almost 20 years of experience as a persecutor, Carrasco has had in his hands cases such as that of the notaries Gloria Acharán and Roberto Mosquera, who irregularly validated signatures for the presidential candidacies of Tomás Jocelyn-Holt and Franco Parisi, in 2013. He also processed cases for the smuggling of Chinese migrants, which splashed on former DC senator Andrés Zaldívar.
