A little more than a month after the one year of the social outbreak of October 18, 2019, both the Government and the Carabineros have already begun to work on a contingency plan in the event of possible demonstrations in the Metropolitan Region, specifically in Plaza Baquedano.
As reported Third, This new strategy will follow the same line as that used last year with the aim of stopping the protests at the first act of violence, for which the Carabineros has already begun to prepare new security elements, among which are water and gas launchers, in addition to 1.8 meter shields.
The riot control shotguns will also be renewed, which will have more control capacity, although they can be used only for defensive purposes and not to control public order.
In conversation with Third, the head of Order and National Security, General Ricardo Yáñez pointed out that “with the support of the Government and the Ministry of the Interior, we have been able to incorporate and renew logistical means.”
“In addition, we continue to work on continuous training of personnel, for example, with training and retraining in the field of Human Rights,” he added.
In this sense, Yáñez explained that “we have made progress in the internal processes to clarify possible faults in our institutional regulations and we have clearly demonstrated our will and commitment to continue collaborating with the Public Ministry in everything within our reach.”
