The former minister and historical representative of the UDI, Pablo Longueira, explained on Monday the reasons why goes for the “Approve” a new Constitution for Chile, although he considers that a plebiscite should not be held to make the decision, since in his opinion the victory of the proposal to leave the current Magna Carta behind will be “devastating”.
“Rejection is impossible to winIt’s two plus two, ”he said in an interview with Radio Bío Bío this Monday. According to Longueira, he will not ask the right to change his opinion, but that “without fear, you have to go to a conventional one.”
In conversation with Tomás Mosciatti and Nestor Aburto, he indicated that “My goal is to make Rejection as small as possible”.
“I’ve always been for the approval, I do not conceive that we reject and make a new Constitution. It is absurd ”, but he clarified that he understands the attitude of those who are for the Rejection, since there is no leadership.
“I have been an opponent of this government for quite some time,” said Longueira, assuring that this falls back on the way it has been governing and that “nothing is surprising what is happening” in the country.
Regarding the reason why he retired from politics, the former minister said that he simply got tired of everything related to this world after his brief presidential foray.
He also indicated that the withdrawal of 10% of the pension funds, the fact that the Government did not take the project to the Constitutional Court and that people from the UDI approved the initiative, was the end of the current Constitution, and before this, “Jaime (Guzmán) was rolling in the grave.”
“Those who betrayed Jaime were those who voted in favor of that constitutional reform (…) They are the traitors ”, he stressed.
Pablo Longueira was emphatic in saying that the Constitution of the ’80s was “wonderful” but that its term has ended and “fulfilled its role”, and that is why now we must work towards a new one that, in his opinion, is It will be drawn up during the term of a UDI president. “Joaquín Lavín is going to be Patricio Aylwin” of this new period, he said.
Regarding the “Rejection” strip, Longueira said that it is “The closest thing to the Yes campaign that I have seen”.
Finally, he called on all those who will vote for this option to stay at home for the plebiscite, which he considers should not take place given the current health crisis, stating that in any case, the approval will win.
Judicial situation
On the occasion, Pablo Longueira also referred to the judicial investigation against him for the Soquimich Case, where he faces charges of bribery and of consummated and repeated tax crimes.
Thus, he indicated that the day his oral trial is held “will be more entertaining” than his incursion for the Approval and that also “I’m going to sue them all” because “in a democracy there cannot be an organism that does this to a citizen.”
“I have not committed a crime, none,” he said, adding that “there is nothing worse than these right-wingers who have to show the left that they are not on the right. I panic about those ”.
In this way, he added that the prosecutor Pablo Gómez formalized it without going to testify and that it was because, in his words, “he could not stand the pressure.”
Pablo Longueira pointed out that he never booted and that never “touched a peso”. “Every year we hand over our account to the Ministry of Justice, every year. So clear ”, he explained.
“They investigated me for three, four years separately, in my case. The last move they did was to get me into the Soquimich cause. Now I am lucky for the Soquimich cause where there are many other things, ”he said.
According to him, in his investigation it was found that there was no bribery and that the Prosecutor’s Office offered him an agreement, but he had to accept two other crimes: influence peddling and incompatible negotiation.
“I never accepted them because I never did,” he defended, assuring that he would prefer “An unfair ruling” rather than accepting crimes you did not commit. It would have been after telling this to the Prosecutor’s Office that his house and offices were raided, he accused.
According to the former minister, that day he saw something that “I have not seen even the drug traffickers in the country” and that “never in my life have they done something as humiliating to me as that.”
“This for me is the most humiliating thing that they have done to me in my life, by far, “he reaffirmed and described the procedure as a” mafia act “and accused that to get the order,” they deceived a court. “
