President of the DC, Fuad Chahín: “We have profound differences with the Communist Party”

“On two occasions, when I was a deputy and vice president of the party, I had to support Daniel Jadue in Recoleta for his candidacy for mayor, therefore it seems to me that it is rather a rhetorical argument to victimize oneself with anti-communism”, this was the response of Fuad Chahin before the summons made by Jadue this morning that there is “anti-communism” among leaders of the center-left.

In an interview with Chilevisión, the Falangist helmsman addressed the statements of the PC mayor and the relationship between both parties, noting that, even when they have shared a coalition, “we have profound differences”.

Without pointing directly to a possible candidacy of Jadue to La Moneda, which, incidentally, has the support of the polls, Chahín said he was convinced that “The country does not want candidates that represent polarization, the extremes” and therefore, “the DC is going to have its candidacy”.

Let us remember that Daniel Jadue advanced this morning to La Tercera that his party raises, facing the 2021 presidential election, than “Let’s all go to primary school and that the program that wins primary school becomes the backbone of the program that we agree upon among others. “

Chahín responded that they are also available to go to a presidential primary, but “with a previously defined framework from a programmatic and political point of view, that reaffirms democratic principles and Human Rights in Chile and in other parts of the world.”

“If that framework is well defined,” he said, “we will participate in primaries.” But “what we are not available for – he added – is to go to a presidential primary where the one who wins takes home the program and the rest just have to support “.

“And we do not believe that it is a good idea to arrive totally divided in the first round. So, on the presidential issue we are available without a priori exclusion, but previously defining the framework,” said the president of the DC.

Fuad Chahín confirmed today that he will run for office again in the January 2021 internal elections, with the aim of “returning political and electoral preponderance” to the party.

The Christian Democratic president told El Mercurio that “we have to transform this political leadership that we have into electoral leadership. And since the internal elections are going to be before the municipal elections, I believe that this process is incomplete and therefore, after talking with many militants, I have made the decision to reappoint myself to the presidency of the party, to finish that process, to be able to finish the cycle. “

Although there is still no clarity on the lists, he reiterated that for him, the efforts of the eventual table should aim at “facing the electoral challenges that we have next year.”
