Minister Desbordes for possible constitutional accusation against Víctor Pérez: “I ask the opposition not to make it concrete”

The Minister of Defense, Mario Desbordes, referred to the constitutional accusation that could fall on the Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez, for the Government’s handling of the truckers’ strike.

The carriers left the roads and the strike ended, however, the opposition deputies’ benches agreed this week to continue with the libel.

In conversation with the program Mesa Central of Channel 13, Desbordes made an explicit call to the opposition to “not specify the constitutional accusation” because “we cannot polarize the environment.” For the former president of National Renovation, “one question is enough and over, so that it can be discussed, questioned, answered and explanations given.”

“That corresponds in democracy when we want to take care of the institutions and when we are aware of what is coming to us as a country from now on (elections),” added the Secretary of State.

Asked about the government’s management during the truckers’ strike, Desbordes maintained that there was no double standard, as indicated by the opposition, due to the actions of the Carabineros with the transporters. “The Government acted the same as it acted with the truckers who stopped in October demanding the tag and paralyzed the entrance to Santiago,” argued Desbordes.

With the same tone, the Defense Minister defended the criteria with which La Moneda has handled street protests. “During this Government, they have acted with criteria when there have been demonstrations, when there have been strikes, and when there have been demonstrations,” he concluded.
