The Christian Democrats called on opposition parties to agree to primary elections to define the candidates for mayors, mayors, governors and regional governors, in the next elections in April 2021.

Through a statement, the National Council of the DC pointed out that this “signifies an unequivocal sign of coherence with the country, the will to work together for the approval and the constitutional convention, and the decision to return power to the people. to determine who will be their representatives ”.

Along the same lines, they affirmed that they have “the conviction that the primaries will not only legitimize the next elections, but that it will constitute a correct way to propose and build with the citizens, the country we dream of and that we can build together. They also constitute an unequivocal form of citizen participation, so demanded and necessary today ”.

Finally, they rejected “any attempt – and under any pretext – to postpone the direct and democratic election of the regional governments”.

“This means not only the breach of the word promised by the Government of Sebastián Piñera, but also a failure to the regions and the necessary decentralization, which can not continue to wait,” they sentenced.
