In the framework of the International Day of Indigenous Women, the ministers of Social Development, Karla Rubilar, and of Women, Mónica Zalaquett, signed a collaboration agreement between the National Corporation for Indigenous Development (Conadi) and the Ministry of Women to promote visibility and highlight the role of indigenous women in the social, cultural, economic and political sphere, supporting the strengthening of their leadership in different spaces or instances.

Rubilar explained that “it is a pride to be today commemorating the International Day of Indigenous Women at the Palacio de La Moneda. We hope that today a tribute will be paid to all the indigenous women of the world who, with their particularities, make themselves unique and extremely valuable. Thanks to them we can count on an enormous cultural wealth ”.

Outstanding indigenous women, representatives of different indigenous peoples of the country and who have had an important role in society, also participated in the meeting, achieving relevant professional and academic achievements.

“We are fortunate to have this power of indigenous women in Chile and it is our job to do everything that depends on us to perpetuate and empower many women like them to follow the leadership in our country,” reflected the head of Social Development.

For his part, Zalaquett, explained that “on this day we signed a tremendously relevant agreement, because we will do together with the Ministry of Social Development and Family, through Conadi, a work to strengthen the leadership of the women of our native peoples , through workshops, talks and trainings. We want to continue enriching our culture, supporting everyone and working to end all inequalities that exist against women and especially against our indigenous women, that is a commitment that we assume as a Government ”.

In turn, Ana Millanao, special advisor of the Unit for the Coordination of Indigenous Affairs (UCAI), She stated that “for us, as indigenous women, this is a very special day, of great relevance and much recollection of so many women who fought to defend our culture, our languages ​​and traditions. For me and for all the women who accompany us, getting to where we are has not been easy. For me, as the first Mapuche woman to coordinate this very important unit, it is very relevant. We are the bearer of that strength, that newen, that we hope to transmit and continue working together for these challenges that lie ahead ”.
