The Prosecutor’s Office of Biobío reported this day the closure of the investigation in the so-called Asipes case, an inquiry started in 2017 and that sought to elucidate whether companies linked to the fishing sector financed political campaigns, eventually conforming the crimes of bribery or fraud to the Treasury, within the framework of the Fishing Law.

Through a statement, the prosecution maintained that “In the investigation for the so-called Asipes case, during this day, the Bío Bío Prosecutor’s Office entered the Fourth Guarantee Court of Santiago the request to schedule a dismissal hearing and decision not to persevere in the aforementioned case”

Added that “The legal arguments for this determination will be presented in the judicial instance, on the date and time that the court will soon schedule.”

In the case of Asipes (Asociación de Industriales Pesqueros del Biobío), carried out by the regional prosecutor, Marcela Cartagena, were investigated, among others, Senator Jacqueline Van Rysselberghe -today president of the UDI-, deputy Fran Sauerbaum (RN), his UDI counterpart Sergio Bobadilla, former mayor Jorge Ulloa and former deputy PPD Cristián Campos.

Likewise, the fishing partners of Asipes and his former president, Luis Felipe Moncada, were investigated.
