The Valparaíso Regional Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation on Thursday against the regional mayor, Jorge Martínez, and the head of the National Defense, Rear Admiral Yerko Marcic, for the alleged crime of omission of complaint.
This was reported by lawyer Luis Cuello, who together with deputy Hugo Gutiérrez (PC), presented the criminal complaint against the authorities last Friday, after the successive blockades made by truckers on Route 68 near Casablanca.
Specifically, the investigation will be in charge of the Regional Anti-Corruption Unit, which according to Cuello “Gives full guarantees of a serious investigation”.
“The mayor and the rear admiral were extremely permissive with this union and preferred to sacrifice the tranquility of the inhabitants of the Valparaíso region in the midst of the state of catastrophe. We are sure that their responsibility will be demonstrated ”, added the lawyer.
For his part, Deputy Gutiérrez said that “it is good news that the Regional Anti-Corruption Unit has been appointed to investigate crimes that, without a doubt, they are an attack on public probity and the honesty with which these authorities must act within the scope of their functions “.
“It is obvious that they lacked their powers by not complaining about the State security law,” the parliamentarian closed.
