Carabineros de la Zona Tarapacá reported that the immediate discharge of seven officials detained this Thursday in the framework of an investigation of the Economic Crimes and Corruption Unit of the Tarapacá Prosecutor’s Office against a criminal organization accused of a series of crimes such as robbery, smuggling and bribery.
According to the information released by the Tarapacá Prosecutor’s Office, the investigation, which had been carried out since 2017, had the collaboration of the Iquique Anti-Narcotics Brigade of the Investigative Police. There are 22 people detained, among them, the seven active carabineros until this morning and four other former uniforms who had been previously discharged.
The uniformed police indicated that the investigation that culminated in the arrests was initiated by the institution’s own internal controls. “Since the crime was reported, all the information was provided to the investigation, collaborating at all times with the investigations carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office and the PDI, ”they stated.
