On Thursday afternoon, the Electoral Service clarified that Pablo Longueira is authorized to vote in the next plebiscite, collapsing what was raised by the deputy Leonardo Soto (PS).
Through a statement, Servel confirmed that this is what the Electoral Register reports, adding that on the date it was determined, the body “I had not received any communication from a Guarantee Court that Mr. Longueira had been accused of a crime worthy of afflictive punishment.
It should be remembered that after the former UDI senator announced that he will vote Approve in the October 25 consultation, Soto affirmed that Longueira maintains an accusation from the Prosecutor’s Office. Therefore, he could not vote, military in a party, run for parliamentary office, or go as a constituent if he won that option.
The deputy even went further and made an ex officio petition before the State Defense Council (CDE), so that report “on the steps, progress and status of the judicial aspect of the so-called SQM case”.
Meanwhile, this Wednesday, the Valparaíso regional prosecutor, Claudia Perivancich, left it up to the Servel to refer to this situation, emphasizing that Longueira remains accused of the crime of bribery.
