This day, more than 150 lawyers signed a statement in support of the academic and law doctor in the face of Longueira’s attack, stating that “when she tries to use -infructfully- María Inés as a scapegoat, what she does is try to revile the trajectory of a lawyer who has dedicated years to the service of this country delivering excellent work and that is unacceptable ”.
The statement emphasizes that “it is known to all that Mr. Longueira is involved in the criminal case called“ SQM ”, and that he is being investigated for various acts related to the crime of bribery. One of the most terrible scourges facing our society ”.
“In this context, Mr. Longueira has had the audacity to accuse Mrs. María Inés Horvitz of her fate. And he has indicated that his judicial problem is due to a whim motivated by the lawyer’s political ideas. It is not just a lousy excuse, to which no one in their right mind would give any credit. Nor is it just a bad old joke from someone who still considers telling another “communist” something offensive. And not only is it another proof of dichotomous thinking that does not distinguish shades in a full scale of colors, “he adds.
The professionals also emphasize that “Horvitz is an outstanding professional who has forged her career with absolute dedication, commitment and professionalism. She is an example of courage for all women lawyers, because she chose an absolutely masculinized path and successfully met each of the challenges that she set for herself ”.
It should be remembered that yesterday, once the statements of the accused of bribery and multiple tax crimes were known, the CDE itself immediately rejected the statements of Longueira, ruling out the persecution.
Today, Longueira himself tried to back down, pointing out that “obviously I am going to apologize if she is not a communist”, although -he said- “I understand and they have told me that she is a communist (…) we are full of people who are communists and that people don’t know. “
