The deputy Andrés Celis (RN), referred to the failure in the conversations carried out between the Ministry of the Interior and the union of transporters of greater load, that maintains the stoppage of activities of the truckers for 6 days in our country.

The legislator of the Chamber’s Human Rights Commission assured that “Chile needs a Minister of the Interior who exercises real leadership and manages to control violence in our country. With the above, I mean the violence in Araucanía, the harsh robberies suffered by truckers in Chile, including my region of Valparaíso, but I also speak of medical supplies or food that have not been able to reach their destination ”.

“Government authorities, especially the Minister of the Interior must play a fundamental role in solving social conflicts that arise. Not for nothing does the portfolio also take care of public safety. The problems in Araucanía are not new, it is not possible to accept improvisations, there must be negotiation mechanisms, clear protocols, strategic planning, etc. The role of the Minister is to use these tools and put them into practice, that is the only way to anticipate or anticipate situations that can seriously affect the health, security and economy of the country ”.

“Unfortunately we are facing a new social conflict, which was foreseen by all the actors involved. The authorities had the time in their favor to be able to anticipate and thus face the issue with speed and efficiency, however today we are facing a problem that is growing more and more and is more difficult to control. For this reason, I believe that what the Minister should do is sit at the table on issues as delicate as these and not delegate them to his advisers, ”concluded the parliamentarian.

Along the same lines, the Senator from National Renovation, Juan Castro criticized the government’s work in the conflict with truckers. “We must denounce the notable abandonment of functions of ministers who do not comply with their mandate, because it is unacceptable that a murderer like Celestino Córdova is awarded prison benefits for going on a hunger strike, but they do not apply the law to protect a union that works for Chile, “he said.

In a brief statement addressed to his fellow bench members, Senator Juan Castro, stated that “we must be able to admit that we have a bad government, incapable of listening to the legitimate demands of our truckers.”

“As a political sector we must be able to demand that our President and Minister of the Interior have respect for Chile’s truck drivers, since they are asking for what we are not capable of doing,” he added.
