A group of mayors met this Tuesday in La Moneda with the minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres), Cristián Monckeberg, to coordinate measures to carry out a safe Plebiscite, an opportunity in which free public transportation was requested for voting day.
After the appointment, the mayor of Independencia, Gonzalo Durán, explained that “we have stated that just as there are some who will not be able to vote due to this lack of foresight, let us take the necessary protection and guarantee that everyone can vote because they do not have an economic difficulty to go to the voting precincts ”.
“The country faces a health crisis, but it also faces a social crisis, this means that a family that has several members who have to go to vote it could mean a very important economic effort ”, Durán raised.
Along these lines, he stated that “we are not going to rest as mayors until free transportation is guaranteed on the day of the Plebiscite, we believe that this is the best guarantee of broad citizen participation in this process, of course we will actively work so that additionally, they have all the sanitary guarantees so that the process is safe ”.
Thus, the meeting discussed the best mechanisms to guarantee a safe day for those who attend to vote, and that it is widely participatory.
Some of the points raised by the communal chiefs were the possibility of sanitize the premises that will function as premises voting station, have dispensers of alcohol gel at the entrance of each electoral precinct, as well as the control of the use of a mask in the entrances and / or possible temperature control.
In addition to the provision of signage or demarcation of spaces seeking physical distancing, both outside the electoral precinct and at the entrances to each polling station and scrutineering college. It was also proposed that a PCR test is performed on the members in the previous days.
At the meeting were the mayor of La Pintana, Claudia Pizarro, along with the communal chiefs of Valparaíso, Jorge Sharp; from Independencia, Gonzalo Durán; from San Bernardo, Leonel Cádiz; from Renca, Claudio Castro; and Puente Alto, Germán Codina, among others.
