The Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez, in addition to meeting with the CNTC, held a virtual meeting with the presidents of the Chile Vamos parties to analyze the situation around the strike.
The Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez, was until late yesterday, trying to close an agreement with the National Confederation of Freight Transport to deactivate a strike that today is 7 days old.
There was much speculation during the afternoon that an agreement was close to being reached to end the mobilization, but following the trend of the previous days, everything came to nothing, despite the optimism shown yesterday by the Interior Minister, Víctor Pérez.
Text that apparently did not obtain validity in front of the union of the truck drivers.
Yesterday afternoon, a leader in Pillanlelbún went out to speak with the bases to point out that the negotiation had been complicated, but that he was also inviting the truckers to stay in place for safety reasons.
According to sources from Radio Bío Bío, the talks were tense yesterday and Minister Pérez asked for more time to negotiate on several occasions.
A minister of the Interior who said yesterday morning that they were very close to reaching an agreement on Monday, but that internal divisions in the CNTC prevented it.
We asked Sergio Pérez, president of the union, if these internal divisions actually existed and this is what he answered.
From the opposition, meanwhile, specifically the Christian Democrats, yesterday they were quite clear: if the Government did not apply the State Security law, they will constitutionally accuse Minister Pérez.
24 hours that are already in progress. And after that ultimatum, different opposition parties joined in a possible accusation against Pérez for notable abandonment of duties, as expressed by the PS deputy, Leonardo Soto, and the president of the DR, Catalina Pérez.
Tension on the rise
Another situation that raised the tension was the death, near Curicó, of a truck driver who was part of the mobilizations, after being run over by a truck carrying medical supplies.
To this was added the determination of the undersecretary of the Interior, Juan Francisco Galli, who announced a complaint for the violation of article 318 of the Penal Code.
This, since videos were released, which were disseminated through social networks, where you could see some truckers dancing on the road with some women who were semi-naked.
In the same activity in which Galli announced the complaint, the director of Order and Security of the Carabineros, General Ricardo Yañez, spoke about the possibility of removing trucks from the tracks with cranes.
Regarding the shortage, the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker, expressed his concern about the situation in some cities located south of the Bío Bío region.
For this reason, he called on the truckers’ union to stop their strike.
Given this worrying scenario, it will be necessary to see if today, on his seventh day, Minister Pérez manages to unblock the situation, who last night also met with the presidents of the Chile Vamos parties to find a solution to the conflict.
