“We do not have the crane capacity in the country”: Carabineros explains why they cannot move the trucks

Carabineros delivered a new report on the truckers’ strike that keeps the main roads of the country blocked. The director of Order and Security of the institution, General Ricardo Yañez, acknowledged that the only way to move trucks is through dialogue.

“I believe that we do not have the crane capacity in the country to move this amount of trucks, so you have to be extremely careful. We must promote dialogue, communication, coordination and maintain traffic and the supply chain, “Yáñez said.

The uniformed police report states that there are more than 1,000 trucks blocking routes between the O’Higgins and Los Lagos regions. Also, the general indicated that more than 50 escorts have been carried out on carriers and 18 complaints have been made for violating sanitary regulations in the midst of the pandemic.

This Tuesday, the truckers’ strike completed six days and the positions of reaching an agreement are increasingly distant, after the leadership of the carriers will reject the latest government offer, which does not rule out invoking the State Security Law in the face of blockades and shortages.
