Although Sony confirmed that 100 of the most popular titles on the PlayStation 4 will be available on the Playstation 5 at the time of your launch in november, Ubisoft’s support page indicates that backward compatibility will not be available for PS3, PS2, or PS1 games.

“Backward compatibility will be available for compatible titles on the PlayStation 4, but will not be possible for games on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 or PlayStation,” reads the Ubisoft page. This means that users will not be able to play previous console titles on Sony’s new console that will be released during the week of November 13.

Sony previously confirmed that approximately 4,000 PS4 video games will be compatible with the PS5, without giving further details on compatibility with titles from previous consoles.

In comparison, the Xbox Series X, which will also be released on November 6, it will be compatible with “thousands of Xbox One games, including Xbox 360 and original Xbox games,” according to a press release. In addition, Xbox One accessories, the legacy of each game, and services like Xbox Game Pass will also be compatible with the Xbox Series X.

Both consoles will be launched in November although at the moment the final price of each of them is unknown, as well as the price of their digital consoles, which will presumably be cheaper. However, Sony has been ahead of Microsoft and already opened registration for the pre-sale of the PlayStation 5.
