Opposition puts pressure on La Moneda and threatens Perez with a constitutional accusation for stoppage of truckers | National

The Government hardened the tone and described as a mistake that the National Confederation of Freight Transport rejected the sixth counterproposal of the Executive, which sought to deactivate the mobilization of truckers. In Congress, opposition parliamentarians warned that the Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez, is exposed to a constitutional accusation and asked to invoke the State Security Law for the roadblocks.

Again the positions between the Government and the National Confederation of Freight Transport were moved away, after the bases of the truckers rejected the sixth proposal of the Executive.

Radio Bío Bío accessed the last text sent by La Moneda, which was based on eight points. In fact – despite reaching agreements in some, which were also rejected – there are some that have not been able to reach consensus.

One of them is the first, where it was committed to place “Suma Urgencia” -until before March 2021- to the 12 bills related to public security, which was not well received due to the extensive time that could pass for the approval of the initiatives.

Another point of conflict is the third. Although the Executive assured that it would make the necessary demands on the concessionary companies of the conflict zone to establish toll systems with free-flow, cameras and lighting, the truckers indicated that it is insufficient, noting that they should not charge as long as the area is not safe.

In relation to the fifth and seventh -which are classified as the most important by the mobilized- they do not compromise.

They seek that the Executive responds to attacks and loss of property suffered by people, as well as programs to help families of drivers who die or are totally disabled as a result of terrorist attacks, by granting pensions for Lifetime grace for those affected and scholarships for their children.

Faced with the rejection, La Moneda hardened its tone.

The Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Víctor Pérez, convened a contingency committee with sector ministers, as well as mayors, to face a possible escalation of the mobilization, which deepens the shortage that is occurring in the southern part of the country.

The Secretary of State described the rejection of the measures as a mistake and referred to the roadblocks, noting that the Government has no other way than to use all the legal instruments to avoid further disruption.

What happens in the National Congress? The spirits again heated between the ruling party and the opposition.

However, there was consensus in targeting Víctor Pérez.

At least that is how the National Renovation deputy, Miguel Mellado, did.

Meanwhile, his counterpart from the Christian Democrats, Matías Walker, asked the Executive to invoke the State Security Law, due to the roadblocks that are affecting the supply chain.

In that sense, he assured that Víctor Pérez is exposed to a constitutional accusation for notable abandonment of duties.

The head of the PPD bench, Raúl Soto, asked the government not to let the truckers’ union be intimidated, adding that the Executive cannot stop asking to apply the law to flagrant crimes.

The truth is that the strike of the National Confederation of Freight Transport is fulfilling its sixth day of mobilization, with positions increasingly distant with the Executive.

Although the guidelines have been extreme, even within the union, during this day the directors of the CNTC would meet again to draw up a new action plan.
