As an “unfounded rejection” and a “mistake” described the Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez, the refusal of the truckers to the proposal of the Executive to put an end to the stop of the transporters.
The Secretary of State said “in the face of this rejection of a serious and forceful proposal from the government, we want to tell the country that we will take all measures to avoid shortages and avoid road blocks”.
Along these lines, Pérez stated that “the government made the best efforts to overcome this situation. Now the government has no other way than to occupy its authority, the elements that the law provides to face this situation ”.
Minutes before, the president of the Federation of Truck Owners of the South (Fedesur), Jose Villagrán, described as “crumbs” the proposals of the Executive to the carriers. The leader indicated that they would radicalize the mobilization and that they requested to meet with the Interior Minister.
“We are going to use all the mechanisms that the law allows us so that Chilean men and women do not lack food, medicine, fuel and all the elements they need for their daily lives,” said Minister Pérez.
In addition, the Secretary of State indicated that “They offered a peaceful demonstration that unfortunately has been mutating to certain indications of shortages and certain indications of roadblocks, which they had promised not to carry out”.
The mobilization of the truckers began last Thursday and seeks to pressure for the approval of a package of laws on security matters that are discussed in Congress and that were presented by the Executive.
