This August 31 marks the 23rd anniversary of the tragic traffic accident that ended the life of Miss Di. In commemoration of that date, National Geographic will present a series of special documentaries from today, Monday until Friday, September 4 at midnight.
The special programming began with the premiere of Lady Di’s stepmother, at midnight on Monday, August 31. The documentary presents the epic biography of two society women and their evolution through marriage, divorce and tragedy. The unique vision of Princess Diana and her “evil stepmother,” as the press called her father’s second wife, Raine Spencer.
He Tuesday, September 1 at 00:00, Issues from National Geographic Diana in first person. In 1991, inside Kensington Palace in London, the Princess of Wales participated in a series of secret interviews recorded with her permission by a close friend on behalf of the journalist Andrew Morton.
The film reveals what Diana thought and felt at a very specific moment in her life, presenting a more complex side of the story … her side.
Later, on Wednesday, September 2 at 00:00 hours it is the turn of Way a way: Lady Di vs Isabel II.
In 1981 Prince Charles married the young Lady Diana Spencer. What seemed like a modern fairy tale quickly turns into a bitter duel between two women: the Queen of England and the Princess of Wales. A clash of two opposing worlds: one, traditional and secular, and the other decidedly contemporary. This historical, political and human confrontation forever changed the image of the monarchy.
Programming continues on Thursday, September 3 at midnight with the transmission of three episodes of Inside Balmoral.
The first is based on the years 1936 – 1955, when Balmoral became the ideal refuge for Queen Elizabeth. The second episode narrates the events that occurred between the years 1955 – 1992, Margaret Thatcher arrives at Balmoral, Prince Charles woos Lady Diana, Sarah Ferguson is scandalously photographed and Princess Anne marries.
Finally, the third episode tells the most relevant events of the years 1992 – 2017. Balmoral receives Lord Mountbatten’s grandson during his recovery, and William and Harry after the death of his mother.
To close the special of the week, on Friday, September 4, it will premiere Charles: Duke of Cornwall.
Comprised of two episodes of 60 minutes each, the documentary offers a glimpse into the life of the Prince of Wales, the longest-serving Duke of Cornwall. From the Duchy’s headquarters next to Buckingham Palace, the first episode shows the contrasts between all the properties and their movements. While, in the second part, the current Duke of Cornwall visits Nansledan, in Newquay.
